New Student Orientation Parent Events
New Student Orientation events for parents and families will take place on Tuesday, September 16. We know that this day marks an important and exciting transition in your son’s or daughter’s life and in your life as well. The events we schedule for parents and families are intended to offer reassurance while providing an appreciation for the University’s challenging intellectual life, resources, rich community and lasting traditions. We hope that you will ask questions, meet new families and friends, and enjoy your day on campus.
Parking on Campus
On Tuesday, September 16, after unloading your car at the dorm, please move your vehicle as quickly as possible to the parking lot at Galvez Field, located west of Stanford Stadium. Ample free parking is available at Galvez Field, which is close to the venue where many parents will end their day at the Parent Dinner with the Provost. Be sure to display the one-day parking pass in your car at all times to avoid receiving a ticket. Your student will receive this pass as part of Mailing #4 in August. If the pass is misplaced, a replacement pass can be obtained at your student's residence hall Front Desk at check-in.
Stanford’s “Marguerite” shuttle busses will take parents from Galvez Field back to the residence halls until 7:00 p.m. Look for the marked shuttle stop in front of Galvez Field.
Getting around Campus
Should you wish to visit academic departments or other offices on campus, they are generally open 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. All locations are wheelchair accessible unless otherwise noted on the map in the printed Parent Events Calendar. 5-SURE golf cart escorts will be available from 11:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16 to provide limited golf cart transportation for people who may require additional assistance traveling between Orientation events. 5-SURE will be running golf carts from Tresidder Memorial Union to Opening Convocation and the Parent Dinner approximately 15 minutes before these events begin. For assistance at other times, please call (650) 725-SURE (725-7873), or dial 5-SURE from a campus phone several minutes prior to the event.
