Why should I talk to my advisor?

About Advising

Stanford offers a range of advising options through the Academic Advising office. Advising helps you to make the most out of your Stanford experience.

Types of Academic Advisors

Academic Advising Director

Your Academic Advising Director (AAD) can help you navigate University policies and procedures, understand requirements and prerequisites, or help you determine whether a potential class, research opportunity, or major is a good fit for you and your interests. Your AAD has a deep understanding of the university’s offerings. An AAD might help you find things you don't even know you're looking for, and can answer questions you didn't know you needed to ask.

Athletic Advisor

Your AARC advisor can help you coordinate your responsibilities as an athlete and a scholar, and can connect you with accessible resources and support. Your AARC advisor can also help you navigate University policies and procedures, find opportunities, and make decisions that are a good fit for you and your goals. Your AARC advisor is not just a Stanford expert, but an eligibility expert as well.
