In preparation for your arrival, Stanford will send you frequent communications from June to September. Those listed on this page are required for new transfer students.

First Approaching Stanford Email and Mailing

Friday, June 7, 2019

Check your Stanford email at for the first of your weekly Approaching Stanford Newsletters.

Log into the Approaching Stanford Portal in Stanford Canvas to review the "Approaching Stanford Requirements Checklist" to complete this summer.

Log in and begin working on your required Approaching Stanford Forms online.

A package will be mailed to you containing the Approaching Stanford Handbook and information about Transfer Visit Day, Stanford Language Center, Stanford Pre-Orientation Trips, and Vaden Health Center & Cardinal Care Insurance. These materials are all available online.

Your common reading will also be in your mailing. Enjoy the books and participate in online conversations with faculty and your classmates. You will meet the authors at NSO.

Approaching Stanford Forms Deadline

Friday, June 28 by 8:00 a.m. (PDT)

Complete the required Approaching Stanford Forms online and upload your photo for your Stanford ID card. These forms also collect your family contact information for the university.

For age 25+ and/or family (couples/children) housing: complete Grad Housing Application by July 7.

Final Official Transcript Deadline

July 15

Instructions on submitting your final college transcript, if applicable, to the Office of Undergraduate Admission are in your admission packet. Contact with questions.

Explore Courses 2019-20 and New Student Enrollment Hold

August 1

Beginning August 1, browse 2019-20 course listings in Explore Courses and consult with the Transfer Advising Coordinator, Sally Mentzer, in UAR for guidance. While continuing students can begin to register for courses, new students have a "New Student Advisement" Enrollment Hold on your accounts preventing you from enrolling. Transfers may schedule an appointment with Sally Mentzer who will release this hold after reviewing your course choices and having an advising conversation with you. Once your hold has been lifted, you can begin enrolling in your Autumn Quarter classes in Axess

Note: New Student Orientation (NSO) is required for all new undergraduate students and you are required to participate in NSO. Your course registration is conditional upon completion of NSO.

View the online listing of Introductory Seminars. Transfers have priority for sophomore-preference seminars.

Transfer Visit Day

August 1-2

Attend this recommended optional visit to Stanford and meet with Stanford offices, staff, current students, and each other. Online registration deadline is July 5.

Vaden Health Requirements & Forms Deadline

August 15

Complete your required Entrance Health Requirements and Forms online at Submit an official immunization record to Vaden Health Center. Contact with questions.

Stanford Required Online Education Course Emails

August 16

Deadline to complete these required courses online is September 17:

  • Alcohol Education
  • Sexual Assault & Relationship Violence Prevention, Healthy Relationships, and Consent Education

University Bill Notification Email

August 20

Deadline to pay your bill is September 15. View your University bill online in Axess.

Housing Information Email

August 23

Notification of your transfer housing assignment with information from Student Housing. Transfer students living in undergraduate housing will receive additional information from  Residential Education and your Resident Fellows. Transfers students living in graduate housing will be supported by the Graduate Life Office.

Move-In Day Information Email

August 30

Important information about Move-In Day (September 18), including packing/shipping guidelines, a printable map, directions, and the free NSO parking pass. Move-In begins at 8:00 a.m. at your residence. Plan on arriving to Stanford between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. All students must be checked in by 5:00 p.m. If you are bringing a car to campus, purchase a campus parking permit.

Stanford Newcomer Guide Email 

September 13

Introduction to your Stanford Newcomer Guide (SNG) and information about your final meeting during NSO.

Cardinal Care Health Insurance Acknowledgement Deadline

September 15

Retain or waive Cardinal Care Health Insurance online in Axess. Deadline for International Students to waive Cardinal Care is August 15.

New Student Orientation Begins

Wednesday, September 18

Move-In Day! All Transfers should check in and pick up your NSO materials at Kimball Hall from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (And at the Housing Front Desk from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m.) All students must be checked in by 5:00 p.m. NSO is required for all new students.

Preliminary Study List Deadline

Monday, September 23

Register your Autumn Quarter classes online in Axess by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, September 23.

For International Students Only

In addition to the above items, all international students (non-US citizens/permanent residents) must complete the following:

  • Declaration of Finances - Information about applying for the I-20/DS-2019 was sent to you by the Office of Undergraduate Admission upon your acceptance. You must complete and submit your Declaration of Finances form to the Bechtel International Center.
  • Cardinal Care Health Insurance Acknolwedgement/Waiver - Submit the International Student Insurance Coverage Certification Form by August 15 if you do not wish to enroll in Cardinal Care Health Insurance.
  • International Student Orientation - Confirm you will attend International Student Orientation (September 15-18, 2019) on your Approaching Stanford Forms. ISO is required for all international students for whom Bechtel issues immigration documents. ISO is not intended for U.S. citizens living abroad, permanent residents, or students for whom Bechtel does not issue immigration documents. If you are a U.S. citizen living abroad, you may submit a request to attend ISO on your Approaching Stanford Forms.
