New Student Orientation Overview
Welcome! Stanford's New Student Orientation (Thursday, September 20 - Sunday, September 23, 2018) will introduce new undergraduate students (first-year and transfer students) to the wide array of academic, intellectual, leadership, cultural, and social experiences available at Stanford. You will attend many engaging programs during NSO, but you will also have time to settle into your room, make friends, and prepare for classes. All new undergraduate students must be checked in at their residence by 5:00 p.m. on the first day of NSO and are required to attend the full duration of NSO. ***The information on this page will be updated for new students in the class of 2022 and new transfers in summer 2018.***
NSO
NSO 2018 will be held from Thursday, September 20, through Sunday, September 23, 2018, and is required for all new undergraduate students. Parent and family events will take place on Thursday, September 20. Click this link to see the major events in 2018 required for all new students. A complete schedule of all NSO events will be posted by September 1.
New Student Orientation events for parents and families of new undergraduates will take place on the first day of NSO: Thursday, September 20, 2018. This page will offer information about parent & family events, Dinner with the Provost, resources, and guidance on getting around campus.
Move-In Day will be Thursday, September 20, 2018! All new undergraduate students must be checked in by 5:00 p.m. on this day. In August, return to this page for directions, driving routes, maps, the NSO Parking Pass, and packing/shipping guidelines.
Students who are invited to attend these pre-orientation programs will need to register in advance for them: International Student Orientation (ISO), Stanford Pre-Orientation Trips (SPOT), and the Stanford Native Immersion Program (SNIP). These programs will conclude by September 20, 2018, so that you can participate fully in NSO. If you are eligible to attend any of these programs, you will receive more information with registration instructions and deadlines during the summer.
There are many opportunities for members of the Stanford community to contribute to NSO. Student volunteers, speakers & performers, staff members, faculty, and alumni play a vital role in supporting new undergraduate students and their families and we hope you will join us in welcoming the newest members of our family to the Farm. Current Stanford students and VSOs should review the "NSO Policy for Student Groups on Recruitment and Tabling."
Stanford University's New Student Orientation is overseen by Undergraduate Advising and Research, a division of the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education. Meet the student Orientation Coordinators and professional staff at UAR.
