Why Should I Take a Sophomore College Class?

About Sophomore College

Juggling a full course load, extracurricular activities, and some semblance of a social life can be challenging during the academic year. Sophomore College (SoCo) classes are an opportunity to focus on a single course during a concentrated three weeks starting at the beginning of September. Covering a wide variety of subjects and taught by engaged and excited faculty, SoCo classes are a great way to jumpstart your sophomore year at Stanford.

How Do I Take a SoCo?

Watch the SoCo website in spring for the SoCo course catalog and more details on the application process, with applications due in early April. For guidance writing your application essay, consider setting up an appointment at the Hume Center for Writing and Speaking.

Also check out Arts Intensive, which offers courses in different creative disciplines and is held at the same time as Sophomore College. You can participate in Arts Intensive classes before your Sophomore, Junior, or Senior year.
