How to be a TA for EDUC 194 A/B

Steps to Apply:

  • Complete the application process to be a Frosh/Transfer 101 co-lead, and successfully lead a Frosh/Transfer 101 section in the Fall 
  • Review the description of the TA and Head TA positions to learn more about the opportunity and determine if you are eligible and able to commit. Email us at frosh101program@stanford.edu if you have any questions. 
  • Submit an application with your answers to the standard questions below. We recommend that you draft answers outside of the form and then copy and paste. If you have technical problems at the midnight deadline, you can email your application answers to the Frosh 101 Program Coordinator, Steven Doan (sdoan@stanford.edu) directly. 
  • Selected applicants will be invited to schedule an interview with the Frosh/Transfer 101 Leadership team

Application Questions

Replies are typically 1-2 solid paragraphs -- 300 words is often more than sufficient and many strong answers will be shorter than that. Note that applicants for the Head TA position should also provide an answer to the additional question specific to the role.

    • Why do you want to serve as a TA for EDUC 194A/B?
  • Facilitation Experience:
    • Describe any experiences you have which would prepare you to effectively facilitate discussions around the topics covered in the Frosh/Transfer 101 curriculum.

    • Describe what challenges that you anticipate encountering in serving as a TA, and how you plan to address them.

Head TA (2 positions)

Description: 

Head TAs are experienced undergraduate co-leaders in EDUC 194A/B who have extensive knowledge in leading Frosh/Transfer 101 as well as training. In addition to facilitating group discussions for students in the class, the Head TAs are also expected to serve as mentors and resources for the rest of the TA team. Head TAs are hired on a quarterly basis, and have the potential to carry over multiple quarters depending on availability. 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Work with a group of 10+ students in the course (EDUC 194A/B) and guide them through the weekly co-lead training
  • Attend every designated class session of EDUC 194A/B
  • Hold office hours for your assigned group outside of class 
  • Assist with class facilitation and planning for the Frosh/Transfer 101 course
  • Work with instructors in setting up the Canvas course page in preparation for the quarter
  • Help lead and facilitate weekly TA prep meetings before class
  • Serve as a peer mentor and accessible resource for the other TAs

Compensation:

  • Head TAs are paid a stipend of $1100 per quarter

TA (10 positions) 

Description: 

TAs are experienced undergraduate co-leaders who are familiar with the Frosh 101 curriculum. The TAs facilitate group discussions and act as a resource for students in the class. TAs are hired on a quarterly basis, and have the potential to carry over multiple quarters depending on availability. 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Work with a group of 10+ students in the course (EDUC 194A/B) and guide them through the weekly co-lead training
  • Attend every designated class session of EDUC 194A/B
  • Hold office hours for your assigned group outside of class 
  • Attend weekly prep meetings before class and assist with tasks for course set up (i.e. distributing materials in class, taking attendance, technology set up)

Compensation:

  • TAs are paid a stipend of $900 per quarter
