Frequently Asked Questions

1) What are the dates of the 2019 summer program?

Saturday, August 3 to Saturday, August 31. Students are expected to fully participate for the duration of the program.

2) How much does the program cost?

It is free! All costs to attend and participate in the summer are fully covered. Please see our information about "Funding" for more details.

3) Who is eligible to apply?

Any Stanford student who will be enrolling in their first quarter at Stanford this Fall is eligible to apply. We encourage first-generation and/or low-income (FLI) students and those from under-resourced high schools to apply, however those are not requirements to participate.

4) Are international students eligible to participate?

Yes, international students may apply and participate in the summer program! LSP will cover the round-trip travel costs to attend the program and return home. After a student is admitted to the program (around mid-June), we will coordinate with the Bechtel International Center to make any necessary modifications to their visas (e.g. I-20 start date).

5) Can I apply to LSP and Stanford Summer Engineering Academy (SSEA)?

Yes, in fact you can apply to both programs using the same application! Please note that if you are selected, you will only receive an offer to participate in one program. Therefore, apply to both programs if you would be content with attending either.

6) Can I stay on campus after the end of the summer program, until NSO/ISO?

The program is designed for students to have time away from Stanford and rest prior to student orientation. While there is an internship opportunity for 4 LSP students to remain on campus after the summer program (see Lathrop Learning Hub Internship under Funding), students should not plan to stay on campus until student orientation.
