Request a change to your THINK or ESF assignment

How Enrollment Works for THINK and ESF

THINK and ESF enrollment is handled through the Thinking Matters Office. Students cannot add or drop the class via Axess or Simple Enroll. THINK instructors cannot add students to their sections; only the Thinking Matters Office can add or drop students.

You can check your current placement by going to VCAthink.stanford.edu. If you wish a change, see the instructions below.

Current Status of Change Requests

Requests for changes to Winter, Spring or Summer assignments will resume November 23, 2020.

Debating Which Class is Best for You?

Offerings have changed since we sent the PDF Catalog in June, so ExploreCourses has the most up-to-date information.

Request a Change to THINK/ESF

Submit ALL change requests through a form--do not email to request a change! Please be careful to select the right link that fits your situation. The forms will open the morning of 11/23 and should be functioning. If you have issues, try logging into Stanford in a Private Window/Incognito Window to clear out cached information that may be creating a problem.

  • If you have a Winter THINK assignment and would like a different Winter THINK course or section, click here (and then use the Select Action drop down menu in VCAthink). Note: we will have to close this form for a few hours each time we process submitted requests.
  • For ALL other THINK changes (Winter to Spring or Summer; Summer to Winter, Spring to Winter, whatever), click here for the online google form.
  • Students will be pre-enrolled in their Winter classes on Monday, November 30, 2020

Changing Your Grading Basis?

Students CAN change from Letter Grading to Credit/No Credit independently in Axess, without contacting the office. For 2020-21, a CR in THINK, ESF, SLE, and ITALIC will satisfy the Thinking Matters requirement.

Is This My Last Chance to Change?

No! We will continue to take requests through the first week of classes. Continue to submit requests once your schedule appears to be settled.

Will My Change Be Approved?

If your THINK assignment is for a quarter you do not plan to enroll, rest assured, we will move you.

We will accommodate as many other changes as space allows. Sections have a hard maximum of 13 students and overloads will not be possible (teaching online is very sensitive to section size). However, ExploreCourses may have outdated information about space availability, and other change requests may open up new spaces. Be sure to keep an eye on your email in case we need to consult you.
