Eligibility and Commitment

Main content start

Participation in Bing Honors College (BHC) requires approval from the Faculty Leader(s) and the relevant department or program.  Participants in BHC are in one of two categories - residential students or day students.

Residential Students

Most BHC participants are residential students.

To be eligible for Residential Student status, you must...

We provide you with..

  • Campus housing and dining
  • Access to computers and a photocopier
  • Support in the dorm from the residential staff, who organize events to foster friendships and social bonds that carry over into the academic year

Day Students

Day Students are BHC participants who want to be in Honors College but who have conflicts, e.g. RA or RCC training, outside travel, or jobs, which prevent them from participating fully in the College.

To be eligible for Day Student status, you must...

  • Disclose possible conflicts on your commitment form
  • Discuss the situation fully with your faculty leader, who then decides whether to give you day student status
  • Arrange for your own housing

We provide you with...

  • Lunch meal plan to eat lunch in the BHC dorm
  • Access to computers and a photocopier
  • The invitation to participate in BHC-wide events
